The import page under 'Integrations' allows you to import Excel files into your Norce system. This feature supports various data types and provides automatic column mapping to streamline the import process.

Import Types

When importing an Excel file, you must first select the type of data you want to import. Each type corresponds to a specific use case and may have specific file format requirements:

Product Data

  • Products: Import complete product information using an Excel format that matches the columns available in the product listing export
  • Prices: Import price information only, supports multiple price lists in a single import
  • Product on hands: Import stock information including on-hand values and incoming inventory for warehouses and locations
  • Product relations: Import product relationship data with special format requirements
  • Product images and files: Import product media files with special format requirements
  • Suppliers: Import supplier product data (available for customers who work with suppliers)

Other Data

  • Customers: Import customer data matching the format from customer list exports
  • Companies: Import company information matching the format from company list exports

Import Process

1. File Selection and Preview

When you select an Excel file, Norce will:

  • Display a preview of the first 10+ items from your Excel file
  • Automatically attempt to map columns based on the header row in your Excel file
  • Require that your Excel file includes a header row (this row is ignored during import but used for column mapping)

2. Column Mapping

  • Norce will automatically map recognized column headers
  • Unrecognized or ambiguous headers will be left unmapped
  • You must manually map any unmapped columns using the dropdown lists
  • Each dropdown shows all possible values for that import type
  • Tooltips are provided for many options to assist with mapping
  • You can choose to ignore columns that contain data you don't want to import

3. Additional Options

Depending on the import type and file content, you may see additional options at the top of the preview:

  • Language/Culture settings: Required when importing text information (e.g., for product descriptions)
  • Import mode: Choose between "update only" or "insert new and update existing"
  • Type-specific options: Each import type may have unique configuration options

Technical Details

Behind the scenes, Norce converts your Excel import into API calls to the Connect API, ensuring data integrity and proper validation.

Best Practices

  • Always include a header row in your Excel file for automatic column mapping
  • Review the column mapping carefully before proceeding with the import
  • Use the "ignore" option for columns containing data you don't want to overwrite in Norce
  • Refer to the specific documentation for each import type for detailed format requirements
