# Setup: Migrate Products

This guide explains the different approaches to migrating product data into Norce Commerce, depending on your catalog size and complexity.

## Required steps

- Set up product settings
- Set up product content model


## Preparations

- Determine migration approach based on catalog size
- Prepare product data exports from source system
- Before starting the migration process, consider:


1. **Catalog Size Assessment**:
  - Small catalog: Excel-based migration
  - Medium catalog: Script-based solution
  - Large catalog: Contact Norce for guidance
2. **Data Organization**:
  - Master data
  - Product content
  - Prices
  - Stock levels


## How-to

### Small Catalog Migration

1. Use Excel imports for:
  - Master data + standard price
  - Content
  - Other prices
  - Stock levels


### Larger Catalog Migration

1. Implement staged imports:
  - Start with master data
  - Verify that the products are imported
  - Follow with separate imports for prices
  - Import stock levels independently
  - Add content in separate batches


### Best Practices

- Verify master data imports before proceeding
- Use separate imports for different product data
- Finalize product settings before large imports
- Use Norce for synchronization of product catalogs between environments. Instead of works through the migration many times.

## Important considerations

- Make sure that larger product setting choices are made before importing large data assortments. Changes to f.ex. category trees affect pricing module performance, for some time after.
