# Setup: Create Customers and Companies Migrating customer data is essential when transitioning from an old system to Norce Commerce. This guide outlines the necessary steps and considerations for a successful migration. ## Required steps - Set up the [customer model](/setup/customermodel) in Norce Commerce. ## Preparations Before starting the migration process, ensure you have exported the necessary customer data from your old eCommerce system. Typically, you will need: 1. **Company/Organisation Information**: Like VAT number (must be unique), Name, invoice address, delivery addresses, agreements (price lists), delivery or payment terms. 2. **Contacts or Customer Information**: Personal details of the customers, like name, email (must be unique), association with company, etc. 3. **Accounts**: Generally, accounts are not imported. It is recommended to send out a "re-register" notification to customers. Alternatively, if using a third-party solution, this step can be bypassed. ## How-to 1. Easiest is to format all customer data in excel and use the built-in import. 2. Or, use your own scripts directly to Norce Commerce Connect.
